A man believed to be a member of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza criminal gang terrorizing Mombasa residents was on Saturday killed by an irate mob in Sansiro area of Likoni while two others escaped.
According to reports from eyewitnesses, the three armed with machetes and clubs attempted to rob a businessman who was in the area but their mission was foiled by the angry mob.
Administration police officers who were escorting trucks distributing flour in the Sub-county had to fire several shots in the air to scuttle the rowdy mob.
Two suspects managed to escape while a third one was set ablaze by an irate mob.
Likoni deputy OCPD Anthony Shimoli confirmed the incident saying the suspects were armed with crude weapons but warned the public against taking the law in their own hands.
