A Kenyan suicide bomber was behind the heinous attack on KDF-Kulbiyow Camp Attack in Somalia.
Anwar Yogan Mwok according to security agencies was behind the Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) that struck KDF- Kulbiyow Forward Operating Base (FOB) Somalia on January 27.
“Mwok was in one of the lead Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device VBIED that targeted the KDF camp. He was killed by the heavy artillery fired by the KDF and died instantly,” according to a top KDF security officer.
Mwok and his fellow Kenyans, Ramadhan Kungwa and Erick Achayo Ogada had joined Al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia and have been on police most wanted list for their involvement in terror activities. A Sh2 million bounty had been placed on their heads.
The probe team revealed on Monday that the other two Kenyans, Ramadhan Kungwa and Erick Achayo Ogada are still at large within Somalia.
Kungwa and Achayo who were among the Al Shabaab infantry suffered serious injuries. Security agencies are on high alert and that their Kenyan associates and family members are trying to sneak the two into the country for medication.
Mwok was born in Siaya County in 1981. He was born and raised a Christian but later converted to Islam. When he moved to Nairobi, he started playing football for Mathare United Soccer Club.
He was living with his family in Umoja Estate before his conversion into Islam and recruitment into the violent extremist Al-Shabaab.
In 2013, he cross over to Somalia when he joined Al-Shabaab and a unit known Jaysh Ayman, a group of largely Kenyan Al-Shabaab fighters who plan and execute attacks against innocent Kenyans within the country.
Mwok had been lined with a number of properties with Umoja area in Nairobi. Security agencies have indicated that his proceeds from those properties have been financing terror activities targeting Kenya.
According to Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) sources, Mwok has been influential in calling upon and facilitating Kenyan youths to join him in Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
His financial facilitation into the terror group enabled him and other Al-Shabaab operatives to carry out gruesome attacks on innocent Kenyans and Kenyan security agencies (police and KDF soldiers).
