Friday 28th October 2016, the United States Embassy in Nairobi including the consular section will remain closed following the shooting incident on Thursday 27th October 2016 evening.
According to a statement posted on the embassy’s website, operations at the consular will resume on Monday 31st October 2016.
Only emergency services will be offered for U.S. citizens, the statement said in part.
A man was shot dead outside the U.S. Embassy after he reportedly stabbed a General Service Unit (GSU) officer with a knife.
The attacker stabbed the officer on the head and on the hand prompting the officer to shoot him.
The crime scene was quickly sealed with Kenyan officers as well as FBI detectives. Further probe underway to ascertain if the incident was linked to terrorism.
The attacker was reportedly was trying to forcibly gain entry into the embassy when he was blocked by the GSU officer manning at the gate.
