Calm has returned in agricultural town Afgoye after deployment of AMISOM troops in the town and its surrounding.
According to Col. Ronald Bigirwa AMISOM commander of Uganda’s battle group 18 which is headquartered in in Arbiska, three kilometers from the southwestern town said the situation had returned to normal.
Col. Ronald Bigirwa refuted media reports that Al-Shabaab terrorists had overrun Afgoye town saying the reports are a distortion and exaggeration of the situation on the ground.
“It (Afgooye) was not overrun. They (Al-Shabaab) never controlled any position apart from the explosion which killed innocent people including a boy and two women. It was very unfortunate,” Col. Bigirwa explained adding that his area of responsibility is calm.
Corresponding reports from residents indicate that the situation has returned to normal and people are going about their activities normally.
