
The area in the recent past has been characterized with incidents of insecurity blamed on Somali based Al-Shabaab terrorists crossing over and conducting surprise attacks but this since has been curbed.
In Mandera County, security is all high, courtesy of security officers working round the clock in sealing all loopholes used by Al-Shabaab carrying out attacks.
According to County commissioner Fredrick Shisia, security agents are not leaving anything to chance and will continue to scale-up security, work closely with locals to make sure the terrorist’s loopholes are completely sealed.
In the past two months the NEP region has witnessed relative calm with no major terror incident being reported.
Security has been heightened especially along the Kenya-Somalia border thus drastically reducing terror related activities.
Shisia also confirmed Kenya security working with Jubaland in eliminating threat posed by the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
The County Commissioner also thanked residents for cooperating with security agents saying human intelligence provided is aiding success against terrorist exploitation and opportunity to attack Mandera residents. He however urged them to remain alert.
