Somali government forces supported by the African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) over the weekend conducted successful raids against Al-Shabaab capturing a key area in southwest Somalia from the Islamist group Al-Shabaab.
According to Deputy Governor of Bakool region Adam Abdi Mohamed, the joint troops took control Garas-weyne area previously under the control of the militants with much resistance. Garas-weyne is a strategic area is located about 50 kilometers west of Hudur town, the capital of Bakool region.
The deputy governor said the military operations will continue against the militant group until they are completely rooted out of the region.
