EgyptAir Flight 804 vanished off radar on its way from Paris to Cairo. The plane had 66 passengers aboard according to report by an airline official.
Plane left Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport at 11:09 p.m local time and was expect to land in Cairo Thursday 3:15 a.m. local time.
According to a tweet by the airline the location of last contact was 173 miles (280 kilometers from the Egypt coast.
Plane had no special cargo or dangerous goods aboard.
A distress signal was detected in the general vicinity where the flight disappeared; the signal was detected at 4:26 a.m. — about 2 hours after the jet vanished.
Search and rescue operation has been launched by Egypt and Greece.
Initial report indicate that nationalities of crew and passengers on boards came from various nations including France, Egypt, Britain, Belgium, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Chad, Portugal, Algeria and Canada.
