Turkey has sent 11,000 tons of relief supplies to Somalia.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the relief supplies sent via ship was dispatched on Sunday is expected to dock in Somalia within 15 days.
Chairman Fuat Oktay confirmed the shipment left Istanbul’s Haydarpasa Port on Mother’s Day (Sunday 8th May 2016) and will be delivered in the next fifteen days.
Turkey is a strong ally of Somalia and has provided $500 million worth of aid to Somalia.
Somalia is becoming more stable due to AMISOM intervention in quelling Al-Shabaab militancy but is still the country is largely underdeveloped and faces ongoing violence from the Al Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.
