OSINT reports indicate that a prominent Pakistani anti-militant activist was shot dead by gunmen in Karachi over his stance against the Taliban and other radical Islamists groups.
According to police report, Khurram Zaki the anti-militant crusader was killed late on Saturday night at an outdoor cafe in central Karachi. His companion was also wounded in the shooting.
A faction of the Pakistani Taliban terrorists, the Hakeemullah group, claimed responsibility for the attack saying Zaki had been targeted for his stance against radical cleric Abdul Aziz.
However, Hakeemullah claims could not be verified by police as the group previously has claimed responsibility of attacks it did not carry in Karachi.
According to reports by a senior police official, four armed men who arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire targeting Zaki who was sitting at a café.
The outspoken Zaki was in December led street protests against radical cleric Aziz demanding for his arrests. He also demanded Aziz to be charged for hate speech justifying attacks such as Peshawar school massacre where 134 schoolchildren were killed in 2014.
Aziz, a radical cleric in 2007 lead his followers in an armed standoff with government forces at his mosque in the capital Islamabad.
His engagement culminated in an eight-day military operation that saw Pakistani commandoes raid the mosque.
