Reports from Somalia indicate that the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) along with Somali Forces (SNA) fended of an attack by Al-Shabaab militants.
AMISOM on Tuesday said that the militants attempted to attack their troops and Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) institutions in the town of Janale, in Lower Shabelle region.
Lower Shabelle is manned by Ugandan Troops under AMISOM sector 1. UPDF backed by SNA responded with mortar shelling and gunfire inflicting heavy losses to the attacker.
There was no immediate BDA report the number of casualties suffered from the warring sides but initial and corresponding reports from military source and residents indicate that Al-Shabaab sustained heavy casualties.
AMISOM also downplayed ISIS claims on attacking its troops and condemned such propaganda saying no AMISOM convoy or personnel was hit by any elements.
