On Thursday 21st April 2016, a Kenyan received a prestigious award by U.S. government for fighting terrorism in Garissa County.
Asha Hassan, 24, received the award of Emerging Young Leaders award 2016 at the US department of state in Washington DC.
Asha was finalist among the ten participants coming from across the world.
The prestigious awards were presented to the participants by U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Affairs and Diplomacy, Richard Stengel.
Stengel.praised Asha for her bravery and acts of fighting terror in Kenya by involving her peers.
Asha anitiated a youth-led unit which actively involved dialogue and reconciliation among ethnic clans in Garissa.
She mobilized Somali girls to become agents of change on war on terror.
