Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that fighting between government forces (SNA) and the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab has left 28 killed in Galgaduud region, central Somalia.
Somali forces backed by AMISOM troops on Wednesday night raided Al-Shabaab military bases in the outskirt of Elbuur town.
According to Elbuur district commissioner Abdi Hassan, the joint forces killed 25 Al-Shabaab fighters but lost three SNA soldiers in the fight.
Hassan said that heavy fight took place at the militant’s military bases in Budbud and Ulajarad localities located 75 kilometers outside Elbuur.
Corresponding reports from local resident say there was fierce exchange of fire that lasted for some hours.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting the government of Somalia with an intention of overthrowing the western backed government and impose strict version of Islamist Sharia law.
The militant group in past few months has suffered huge casualties across Somalia. Al-Shabaab has also been pushed out of Mogadishu and other major cities and localities by SNA and AMISOM troops which largely are made of troops from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Djibouti.
