Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) on Sunday night seized a luxury car parked with large explosives in northern Mogadishu.
Also seized in the night operation include wide assortment of weapons including rocket propelled grenades (RPGS), two AK 47 rifles, Kalashnikov guns and gas cylinders.
According to Daynile district commissioner Ahmed Nur, the seizure and arrests were made possible by the local residents who tipped-off the authorities, who responded and nabbed the car bomb and the two suspects suspected to have been on a suicide attack mission in Mogadishu.
“NISA troops have managed last night to seize the car laden with explosives, two AK-47 rifles, includng a wide assortment of weapons, five men believed to be Al Shabaab members who were planning attacks in Mogadishu,” Nur said.
The five suspects were detained in the night-time operation. Though they have not been so far identified, they are believed to be working for Al-Shabaab or any other criminal group in Mogadishu.
