
Pentagon has confirmed that 12 members of Al-Shabaab were killed in airstrikes conducted on Monday and Tuesday in Somalia.
Pentagon spokesman confirmed that U.S. conducted successful airstrikes on Monday and Tuesday targeting mujahideen hideouts in Somalia and killing 12 of their fighters.
According to the spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab fighters posed imminent threat to U.S. personnel aiding the Somali National Army north of seaport city of Kismayo in Southern Somalia.
Corresponding reports from local residents said U.S. airstrike bombarded an Al-Shabaab camp in Yoontoy village, located some 20kilometers north of Kismayo city, the regional capital of Lower Jubbaland province.
Monday and Tuesday air raids are the latest in a series of U.S. attacks in Somalia aimed at decimating Al-Shabaab militants which is linked to Al- Qaeda terrorist group.
U.S. air raids have left several Al-Shabaab commanders killed, including the leader of the group Ahmed Godane who died in drone attack near Barawe town on 1st September 2014.
