Somali military court on Monday executed the Al-Shabaab ex-journalist and media officer who confessed to have been involved of killing five journalists.
Hanafi was extradited by Kenyan authorities to face justice in his home country Somalia was sentenced to death last month (March 2016) after the military judges said he had confessed to have been directly involved on assassinating journalists on behalf of the Al Qaeda affiliated Shebab terrorist group.
Hanafi was executed at a police academy in the capital Mogadishu shortly after dawn by firing squad.
Several local and international journalists watched the execution, who said Hanafi struggled as he was taken to be killed, with police having to tie him to the firing post.
On Saturday 9th April 2016, the same military court carried out the same execution by firing squad on two terrorists identified as Abdirizak Mohamed Barow and Hassan Nur Farah for their involvement in killing a female journalist Hindiye Hajji Mohamed—who was working for state-run media station in Mogadishu.
