KHARTOUM Sudan, April 1, 2016
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N) on Thursday said if fighters clashed with Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in eastern Kadugli area of Um Dorain.
According to SPLM-N, their fighters repulsed SAF and killed several of their soldiers.
The fresh fight erupted in the Nuba Mountains area of South Kordofan. SAF had launched large scale campaigns on SPLM-N rebel forces positions.
SAF through their military spokesman Ahmed Khalifa Al-Shami on 30th March 2016 had claimed to have liberated Um Sirdiba town, the main stronghold of the rebels at Kadugli sector.
The two warring sides issued daily statements on the development on military fronts indicating the intensification of the clashes and each side reporting success over the other.
SPLM-N forces in south Kordofan/Nuba Mountains, East Kadugli sector is under command of Brigadier Gen. Aboud Andraus.
The Sudanese army spokesperson was not reachable to comment on these claims.
Earlier this week, SAF said its troops recaptured five rebel positions in the Nuba Mountains including Um Serdibah, "the main rebel stronghold in Kadugli sector", Ugba, and Musharaka area.
However, Brigadier Gen. Aboud Andraus on Wednesday said they retook the control of Ugba and described the victories of the government forces as "false propaganda".
Rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N) northern sector have been fighting the central government for the control of Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas since 2011.
