Kampala-Uganda, March 30, 2016: Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the deployment of additional troops to the country’s west where tribal and post-election violence has erupted leaving at least 28 people dead and score internally displaced.
Violence is rampant in Mt. Ruwenzori region especially in Bundibugyo and Kasese Districts where houses have been burnt down since the February 18th polls.
Local authorities have said that in addition to the reported deaths, at least 10,000 people have been displaced and at least 360 house burnt to the ground.
The violence was sparked by supporters of a local official claiming their candidate was ripped off in the local council elections which has triggered a chain of revenge attacks by both sides.
