ISTANBUL: Italy has pledged to support Somalia in matters relating to security. The announcement was made by Italy’s Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Wednesday 24th February 2016 when he spoke in the ongoing high level forum in Turkey.
Gentiloni called on support by the international community in stabilizing Somalia that has faced Al-Shabaab militancy for several years.
He noted bolstering Somalia security forces will come a long way in formation of other regional state especially in Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
While Somalia’s stability depends on constant international support, Somalia and Somaliland need to kick-start stalled talks and amicably resolve the current standoff.
Consequently the minister said Italy will support the Somali government in its fight against Al-Shabaab militants and take an active role in building and equipping the Somali national army.
