9th February 2016: 29 people have been reported dead after violent clashes between rebels of the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR) and the Mai Mai (a local armed group) in Democratic Republic of Congo.
The casualties have been incurred in the recent wave of violence in eastern DRC that broke out after FDLR militants attacked a Mai Mai camp in Mukeverwa, Lubero. According to HUMINT all those killed were from either of the militia groups with zero civilian casualties.
According to the Commission for Justice and Peace of the parish of Luofu, since November 2015, at least 127 people have died and more than 200 have gone missing. Twenty women have been raped and 3,300 houses burned in Lubero.
Eastern DRC has been rocked by violence for the past two decades with most of it fueled by the Rwanda rebel that are ‘close’ to the Hutu tribe as well as militants opposed to Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.
