3rd February 2016, Recent military reports from Afghan’s Defence ministry reveal that joint operation carried out by Afghan Air Force and supported by NATO troops have destroyed a radio station run by ISIL extremist in eastern Afghanistan a total of 46 militants were also killed government officials said Tuesday.
The extremist run radio station took to the airwaves two months ago signaling threat it might have gained reach in Afghanistan.
The Pashto-language “Voice of the Caliphate” beamed ISIL propaganda in irregular nightly broadcasts from an undisclosed location in Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan officials confirmed.
According to Afghan Defence Ministry the programme was broadcasted from a moving vehicle and air strikes on Monday destroyed the transmission equipment hidden in the basement of a house in volatile Achin district.
Since the Monday 1st February 2016 airstrikes the radio programme has not been heard Achin district governor Haji Ghalib told AFP.
The radio station which broadcasted ISIL propaganda was very demoralizing for troop fighting ISIL and it is welcome news that it has been destroyed, Ghalib added.
The group, which controls territory across Syria and Iraq, has made alarming inroads in Nangarhar, as the country grapples with a resurgent Taliban insurgency.
In past few months Afghan forces supported by U.S. drones launched a scorched earth offensive against ISIL’s positions in Nangarhar, where the group’s reign of terror has displaced thousands of people.
