Wednesday 20th, January 2016: a group of heavily armed militants stormed and attacked Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in the volatile northwestern Pakistan.
At least 15 people were killed and dozens others injured with the number anticipated to rise as the school takes roll call after the attack but the army has rescued 70% of the people in the university at the said time.
The gunfire lasted several hours with intervention from the army resulting to the death of 4 militants. The attack comes barely a year since a similar attack happened in nearby Peshawar at a military-run school that killed 134 students.
The attack was staged in the wake of a poetry recital in memory of independence activist after whom the university is named. According to the university administration, it teaches at least 3000 students and was hosting at least 600 visitors for the recital.
Pakistan has been the target of numerous militant attacks especially from the Taliban prompting stringent anti-terrorism measures along her porous border with Afghanistan.
