13th January 2016, United State government has said radicalization among youths into terrorist organization still remains Kenya’s major challenge posing security threat to the nation.
Speaking when he visited Old Town and Fort Jesus at the Kenya’s coast region, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec said radicalization was a major challenge facing coastal city and called on Kenyan citizenry to collaborate with security agents to address the problem.
Godec however lauded the Kenyan security agencies saying the U.S. government was impressed by Kenya’s effort in curbing terror menace and restoring much needed safety in the country and more so in Mombasa.
The U.S. Ambassador noted that scaled-up security operations and investment on security agencies by the Kenyan government was encouraging.
Godec was categorical that following security improvement, the U.S. government lifted travel advisories against Mombasa to facilitate the region’s economic growth which mainly relies on the tourism sector.
The travel advisories were issued in May 2015 with U.S. government advising its citizen against travelling to Eastleigh area in Nairobi and coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu.
Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho said Godec’s visit was an endorsement of the region as a safe tourism destination.
