
22nd December 2015, Prof Ahmed Warfa, the principal of Garissa University College has recalled academic staff as university is set to reopen in January of 2016.
The University was closed after the April 2 attack by the militant linked to the Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen movement based in Somalia that left 148 people dead.
The attack was masterminded by Mohamed Kuna alia Gamadheere who was an Al Shabaab lower Juba commander.
Now one of the most wanted terrorist, Gamadheere recently decamped Al-Shabaab to ISIL faction in Somalia.
The reopening of Garissa University comes after Deputy President William Ruto directed the University senate and Education CS to meet as matter of urgency and set a date to reopen the University College.
Deputy President said, Kenya will prevail and will not be intimidated by terrorists and more than never Kenya security agents will pursue and defeat the terrorists to their last element.
According to the memo, University lectures are due to begin on January 11.
