Dozens of suicide bombers have been arrested on the Turkish border just a day ahead of the Sunday’s general election.
According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, suicide bombers carrying heavy chunks of explosives were nabbed by security forces on Turkey’s border with Syria as they tried to flee to Syria.
The militants had 7 kilograms of TNT and they were believed to have been planning to conduct a massive attack on the eve of the election.
Turkey has been on a high terror alert citing the Ankara terrorist’s suicide attack at a peace rally earlier this month that left 102 people killed.
The Ankara attacks were linked to ISIL terrorist group.
Turkey’s snap election comes amid intensified counterterrorism operations against the PKK positions in the southeast and civil war rages in Syria.
In an interview with a local media channel, Erdogan reiterated that operations would continue against the PKK even after Sunday’s vote.
