KEY HIGHLIGHTS
On Tuesday 20th October 2015, at least 20 Taliban militants reportedly were killed in US aerial bombardments together with ground offensives carried out by Afghan military forces in the country’s Logar Province.
Logar’s Kharwar district police officials confirmed the operations were successful. Over Dozen militants were cleared and large number of weapons and ammunition were seized from the operations.
The operations comes a day after five people were killed in a roadside bomb blast in the province of Faryab’s Andkhoy district believed to have been planted by Taliban militants.
Afghan forces continue making significant gains against the militants. Last week, the Ministry of Interior reported that the government forces had killed 90 Taliban militants and left 106 others nursing wounds in intensified operations in the city of Kandahar and in the provinces of Nangarhar , Ghazni, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Kapisa, Daykundi, Uruzgan, and Zabul.
SUMMARY
Recently the ongoing operation also saw at least dozens militants killed and others detained across the country.
Also notably, the recent violence comes at a time when Pakistan is trying to bring back the collapsed peace negotiations between Kabul and the Taliban.
Afghanistan has faced gruesome violence and security challenges for over 14 years since US and other coalition partners invaded the country on war on terror that has caused the country financial loss amounting to billions of dollars in its quest to end the militancy.
