
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Maman Sidikou revealed that AMISOM will deploy it police in the recently liberated areas in Somalia starting March 2016.
While briefing Mr. John Harrington, the Minneapolis Metro Transit Police Chief during an official visit, he outlined on the key progress made in Somalia as well as upcoming deployments of AMISOM police in various sectors to boost the much needed community policing.
Ambassador Sidikou stressed the need to deploy AMISOM police as a matter of urgency to avoid Al Shabaab spilling back to areas that they lost. He also welcomed the community contribution towards realizing peace and stability of Somalia.
Mr. Harrington hailed the initiative to deploy Police in the liberated regions citing they would make the public appreciate the Police and enhance community policing with the civilian community sharing valuable information/intelligence to combat extremism and terrorism.
Recently Mr. Harrington who had visited Somalia to learn and share policing experiences with the Somali Police Force (SPF) and the AMISOM Police, said his visit has generated a lot of interest in the large Somali community living in Minneapolis.
