Thousands of volunteer Somali Youth will receive military training from the Ethiopian Defense forces under the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) that will aid in the way against al Shabaab.
The youth are purportedly training at an army training facility in the South West State of Somalia in the town of Baidoa which was recaptured from the al Shabaab militants. According to OSINT the training is being given to all youth that have registered voluntarily irrespective of their gender.
Trainees have expressed enthusiasm in the training with the overall assessment of such a program being increased man power to fight the al Shabaab. Plans to expand the training to five other areas in Somalia are underway.
Training Lieutenants have praised the program saying that the voluntarily trained youth will help eradicate the militants who have scattered as a result of intensive offensive operations launched against them by the AMISOM troops.
Despite the Federal Government of Somalia recruiting and training soldiers and police, the voluntary training is viewed as a beneficial aspect to ensure community policing and security maintenance at the villages and other rural areas that the militants take advantage off.
