Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), the main Israeli producer of small arms has been selling such arms to the Kenya army, Intelligence reports show.
IWI manufacturers the Galil and Tavor rifles, Negev machine guns and Uzi sub-machine guns have been supplying Kenya army with these weapons since 2008.
Intelligence shows that these guns are used in select African countries including Angola and DR Congo for selected parts of the armed and security forces, such as elite presidential guards or special forces.
Negev light machine guns and Galil sniper rifles were first seen in Kenya in 2009 and are now common in special forces units of the Kenya army, particular the ranger unit.
Much of the intelligence on Israeli SALW is derived from pictorial evidence, meaning the sales wereconfirmed through pictorial evidence of these arms with end users.
