14th September 2015, Somali National Army and AMISOM troops launched a major security operations to hunt down criminal elements linked to Al Shabaab violating the restored peace in areas under Lower Shabelle region.
Since morning, security operations was conducted by the troops in Leego locality and its environs. It also involved the government police along with the region’s peace keeping agents making door-to-door operations intended to counter insecurity tip-offs.
Leego Chief, Abukar Abdullahi while briefing the local media said that the operations were intended to beef up the security of Leego village.
“This operation is aimed at securing the area. To achieve this, the Government has also developed and will implement an elaborate relationship between the forces and the public,” he said.
According to Abdullahi, the operations which were launched early in the morning expected to go on for several days and will continue till criminal elements who disturb the locals, whether they are muggers or those anti-peace criminals are completely flushed out.
Government has mounted several checkpoints between Mogadishu and Baidao.
These operations were launched just a few days after the element of Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen tried to attack the AMISOM Leego base on Saturday 12th September 2015 but were successfully repulsed by AU Soldiers manning the base.
