According to Somali authorities, the country is in dire need for more regional aid in fighting terrorism in the country.
Foreign Minister Abdusalam Omer said on Tuesday 8th September 2015 that Somalia needs more support for its national army and new investment to create jobs to help it fight al Shabaab militants.
Analysis
Some of the forces behind militant recruitment in Somalia are the despair that comes out of poverty and the general lack of jobs among the youth.
OSINT sources have contacted the public and revealed that some locals in Somalia willingly give out their daughters to militants in marriage for such favors as dowry and protection.
It is for this reason that the Somali government has encouraged for foreign aid including majorly investments to create wealth in the country and also employ young people so that they do not fall victims of Al Shabaab recruitment.
Despite the fact that Al Shabaab terror group has been driven into smaller pockets of territory by an African Union force and Somali troops, the terror group still curves some significance especially to remote areas in Somalia in the countryside. Most people in Somalia are poverty stricken and so easily fall under control of militants.
Now, the Federal Government of Somalia is committed to reliving the country’s economy as the former is directly related to security. As part of his bid to attract investors, Omer said he would hold meetings in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on September 15. One target would be to attract another international airline to Mogadishu airport, he said.
East Africa region with the backing of Western goodwill is determined to see Somalia back to its full knees. Only then, will AMISOM troops safely hand security responsibilities to the Somali National Army. More countries are therefore called upon to contribute their troops to the regional force to fight the Al Shabaab militants that are a threat to the whole region and that want to topple the Western-backed Somali government.
