Kenya is set to benefit from the Italian government which has pledged its support in its battle against violent extremism.
The Italian PM Matteo Renzi was made a political statement as well paid tribute to Kenyan Universities after what transpired at Garissa University College.
The PM lauded the Kenyan people for their resilience and uniting to fight terrorism. Italy is a close ally of Kenya; promised of tangible support and also signed an agreement aimed on improving counter-terrorism skills of the Kenyan Police.
Development Agenda
Kenya signed a $332 million bilateral deal with two Italian banks for the construction of a dam expected to benefit more than 800,00 people in Nakuru, Molo, Kuresoi, Njoro and Rongai towns.
The funds will cover the whole water project, which consists of construction of the dam, a tunnel, raw water treatment of 100,000 cubic meters per day and laying of pipes.
President Kenyatta called on more Italian companies to invest in Kenya saying devolution has opened new investment opportunities in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, mining and manufacturing at the county level.
The new deal brings Italy’s total financial assistance to Kenya to $576 million.
