Lieutenant General Jonathan Rono, AMISOM military commander has refuted claims being speculated over the troop’s withdrawal from Somalia amid high retaliation from Al Shabaab.
Al Shabaab has recently assaulted the troops in their bases in Somalia in an effort to steal weaponry and recapture towns from the forces.
This led to killing of several Burundi soldiers when Al Shabaab ambushed a convoy leading to Leego on 11th June.
Retaliating on the war against Al Shabaab now would only mean more harm to East Africa, following the militant’s attempts to pledge an allegiance to ISIL which in return promised to fund them better than al-Qaeda.
AMISOM Changing Counter-Terrorism Attack Strategy
Through the military commander, AMISOM troops have indicated that they have established newly revitalized Ops against Al Shabaab “surprise” ambushes.
The series of attacks against the militants will see to it that there will be more Al Shabaab deaths and several thwarted attacks against the militant’s targets.
Re-organization of the troops is essential to ensure maximum control of Somalia against Al Shabaab, a move which is aimed at bringing back life to Somalia.
Part of the newly formulated strategy has pushed Al Shabaab from major bases in Somalia, despite their attempts to retaliate within the capital.
