The Harakat al- Shabaab al Mujahideen takfiri militants have launched assassinations against government officials and persons linked to the Federal government of Somalia especially in the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu.
Some of the victims include a senior intelligence officer who was shot along with his three bodyguards in Jazira Beach where he was the head of intelligence, a Banadir regional administration officer survived a car bomb attached to his car and a female trader was shot dead by gunmen in Bakara market.
All this killings happened in 24 hours and are attached to the onset of the holy month of Ramadan that the militants have increased the number of attacks against government officials, peacekeepers under the AMISOM and Somali Security Forces.
Summary:
The Somali Federal Government has however revamped the security in Mogadishu and its outskirts especially highlighted by the recent meeting of the National Security Committee earlier in the week.
Despite these most recent attacks, a clear picture of a security-apparatus deficient Al Shabaab has been depicted. The image is that of a weakened al Shabaab that is trying hard to remain relevant amidst heightened security measures and recent entry of Ethiopian troops and tanks into Somalia.
