Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the Muslim fraternity to come out and condemn the violent activities posed by the extremist group Boko Haram.
The president call came after a surge series of deadly suicide bombings in Nigeria’s Borno state since the holy month of Ramadhan began. US has also strongly condemned Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria.
The national chairman of the prominent Muslim Group JIBWIS Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau has welcomed Buhari’s call. He stressed on the clerics not to be deterred from denouncing the extreme violence orchestrated by Boko Haram militants citing it contradicts Islam teaching as a religion of peace.
Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau: “We have said it is not Islamic. What you are doing if you want to teach people or you want to tell them about the goodness of Islam, [violence] is not the way you present Islam, you are giving Islam a bad name,”.
“So we have been saying if you want to present Islam to the Muslim world or to non-Muslim, then you cannot present Islam with [violence] or the way they are presenting it.”
Nigeria Forces have made significant gains against the Boko Haram militants, seizing and liberating areas they previously controlled in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
