
Kenya tourism has suffered from travel advisories and security challenges in the 1st quarter of 2015. However the tourism sector got a reprieve when the United Kingdom on Thursday 18th June 2015 lifted its travel advisory a move that has been welcomed by tourism stakeholders at the Coast.
British High Commissioner Christian Turner at Sarova Whitesands Beach on Thursday after a meeting with tourism officials announced UK had lifted its travel advisory and called on the Kenyan Government to launch aggressive campaigns to market the country as a secure tourist destination.
World Travel Award Gala Ceremony
Kenya tourism facilities dominated at the World Travel Award gala ceremony held in Seychelles at the weekend barely a week after UK lifted non-essential travel ban.
The country scooped nine awards in various categories. The Tourism sector performance will go a long way in marketing and building the country’s brand.
Leading Destination
- Maasai Mara Game Reserve topped as Africa’s National Park while Diani Beach clinched the spot of Africa’s leading beach destination.
- Twiga Tours was voted the top Africa’s leading luxury safari destination as well as Africa’s responsible tourism company.
- Carlson Wagonlit was named as Kenya’s leading travel Management Company as well as Kenya’s leading travel company.
- Enashipai which is based in Naivasha won as Kenya’s leading spa
- Nairobi’s Serena topped as Kenya’s leading business hotel and also won the Kenya’s green hotel award.
Tourism stakeholders are optimistic that the industry will turn around and the gesture by UK envoy shows the confidence in the security the Kenya government has rolled out.
Tourism officials have also called on other European countries to lift travel ban on Kenya as they welcomed the move by the UK Government.
