Picture evidence and official statements from Somalia’s Lower Shabelle administration confirms over 96 bodies of youths conscripted into terrorism and militancy by the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen were killed by Ugandan Army operating in Somali’s Lower Shabelle Region under the AMISOM banner on Sunday.
13 Tactical Vehicles used by the terror group to conduct the attack were destroyed and hundreds of assorted weapons and explosives captured.
Truckloads of bodies have been pictured and filmed ferrying the dead bodies to a mass grave site prepared by Somali Army and the UPDF AMISOM contingent.
The ability to conduct such deadly counterstrikes and defensive operations by AMISOM troops is vital element of counter insurgency operations.
Al-Shabaab issued a statement through international media including Reuters and British Broadcasting Corp BBC, claiming to have killed 59 UPDF troops and losing 14 of their fighters.
The admission by the terror group, that it lost dozens of militants in the botched attack was a red herring and and an admission of miscalculation if not an underestimation of the AMISOM military troops capabilities.
