Eight people were arrested in Brussels, Belgium following a string of counterterrorism raids after a reported attack plot. The eight were arrested in Molenbeek, which is an immigrant linked district linked with the Paris and Brussels terror attacks of 2017.
The operations were triggered after intelligence reports revealed that there was an imminent threat of an attack in the country.
The arrests took place following raids in Molenbeek, but also in Geraardsbergen and Mechelen, both in northern Dutch-speaking areas of Belgium. Molenbeek was home to several members of the cell that carried out November 13, 2015, attacks on Paris and the March 2016 suicide bombings in Brussels.
