At least eight al Shabaab terrorists were killed at another eleven seriously injured in Marka town following a botched attack in the town.
Somali military sources revealed that the attack began with explosives and mortar fire followed by heavy fighting between al-Shabaab and the Somali military. The Sunday evening attack appeared coordinated as the terrorists attacked the town from four different sides using EID laden vehicles.
The attack would not materialize seeing as the military stationed in Marka had prior intelligence of imminent attacks and as such thwarting what would have been a deadly attack geared at recapturing the town from SNA.
The town of Marka in Lower Shabelle region lies about some 90 kilometers southwest of the capital Mogadishu. Somali forces have intensified offensives in recent weeks against Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle and Middle Jubba regions wresting control of villages previously under Al-Shabaab grip .
