The South Sudanese government issued a statement announcing the arrest of 76 suspected members of the Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia.
Through cabinet affairs minister Martin Elias Lomuro, Southern Sudan Government reported the arrest and subsequent identification of 76 people who are of Kenyan and Somalis origin.
Some of these elements had no proper identification, the statement read. “Of those arrested in Juba, thirty-three of the suspects had valid passports and three lack traveling documents. Forty (suspects) who are now in Aweil completely have no (travelling documents) on them. They are just moving across our country. We believe that they are related to Islamic organizations including Al Shabaab,”
