50 soldiers were killed during an incursion on Tuareg separatists besieging the North of the the country, intelligence sources confirm.
The militants in the West African nation have continued to stage attacks on security forces leading to the launch of an army operation in the northern town of Kidal.
Tuareg uprisings have weakened Mali’s peace and national security.
Over 40 soldiers were reportedly injured in the failed army operation to end the cycle of insurgency.
An agreement to end hostilities had been agreed on between the Mali government and the Tuareg separatists a week ago.
The Wednesday incursion may have broke the fragile peace deal brokered by the UN and African Union.
