Mogadishu: At least 5 people were killed and several others injured in a Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (SVBIED) near Somalia’s presidential palace in Mogadishu; Somalia’s capital on Monday 21st September.
Despite an obvious finger pointed at the Islamist terrorist group, Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahedeen, no official claim has been made for the attack.
The militants in the past weeks have stepped up their attacks in a bid to overthrow the western-backed federal government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. In their recent campaigns they have launched attacks against the AMISOM troops, and international diplomats and convoys.
Regardless of the attacks, the AMISOM troops and then Federal Government of Somalia has asserted that the militants aren’t re-surging and they still hold the small strategically insignificant areas with troops intensifying their efforts to flush them out entirely.
