Five Al-Shabaab operatives were on Tuesday evening arrested following a security sweep by Puntland forces in Bosaso during which forces recovered explosives and assortment of weapons.
Confirming about the raid, Puntland presidential guards’ commander, Abdirashid Abdiraxman Ismail noted that the operation that was aided by human intelligence (HUMINT) recorded success.
“Our security forces arrested Al-Shabaab linked men who were planning to terrorize this town, and the forces also seized IEDs packed in three drums which the terrorists wanted to use for deadly attack on innocent civilians living in this town,” , Abdirashid Abdiraxman Ismail was quoted saying.
Ismail lauded the cooperation between the forces and the locals in thwarting the attack saying this shows a positive step towards restoring peace and order to the town.
