U.S. in support of the Federal Government of Somalia conducted another airstrike on May 26, 2019 targeting an Al-Shabaab encampment in the Golis Mountains of Somalia.
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a press release confirmed of the air assault against the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab saying the intensified air campaigns are aimed at disrupting the group’s capability to plan attacks, dismantling their networks, besides crippling their recruiting efforts in regions of Somalia.
Precision airstrikes are aimed at supporting Somali security forces efforts to protect the Somali people from terrorism while creating opportunities for increased governance to take hold.
The Golis Mountains are a known area for terrorist camps and ongoing fighting between the two terrorist groups.
This is the sixth airstrike in the last month against ISIS-Somalia and Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab in the Golis Mountains that left three (3) militants killed.
