Security Review Brief
The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab continues to register claims of attacks in Somalia. In the past 24 hours, Al-Shabaab has claimed at least five attacks.
- Al-Shabaab has claimed to have conducted a mortar attack on a Djibouti Military Base in Buloburde (Buloburti or Bulobarde), Hiran region of Somalia.
- The militant group also has claimed two IEDs attacks destroying two Burundian military tankers in Jaluli area of Balad town, in Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.
- Al-Shabaab through its pro-media has claimed assassination of a government official and also seized weapons in Jowhar, Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.
- Al-Shabaab has claimed to have attacked El Salini SNA operating bases in Lower Shabelle killing at least 41 soldiers besides destroying their vehicles and seizing weapons.
- Al-Shabaab has also claimed assassination of Parliament Election Committee Member named Mohamed Ouyi in Burhkaba town in Bay region of Somalia.
In response to the attacks, Somali security forces supported by AMISOM troops launched operations in Qoryoley district of Lower Shabelle where Al-Shabaab had attacked a Somali Army base on Tuesday morning.
During the mop up operation, the joint forces blocked a car bomb attack that was intended to destroy a main bridge in Qoryoley district and a fire fight with the militants erupted.
According to the military sources, three Al-Shabaab attackers and several weapons, including BKM rifles were confiscated.
The joint operations also saw military taking control of several villages including Darshanley, Bandar, Farkerow, 1st camp under Qoryoley district of Lower Shabelle and captured suspected youth in the region.
Al-Shabaab’s operations have increased and continues to be witnessed in Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle and Hiran regions of Somalia.
