The United States in support of the Federal Government of Somalia conducted a precision airstrike targeting al-Shabaab terrorists in the vicinity of Wadajir. The airstrike was conducted on February 19th by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). Three al Shabaab militants were killed by the strike as assessed by AFRICOM.
U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Gregory Hadfield, U.S. Africa Command deputy director of intelligence has maintained that removing even one of these terrorists from the field supports our partners on the ground and prevents that individual terrorist from planning or executing future attacks on Africans and Americans.
The US has expressed increased cooperation between her and her East African allies especially Kenya in a holistic campaign against the al Qaeda affiliated terror group that has been stepping up its attacks in Somalia and Kenya’s northern prefecture.
Despite the airstrikes disrupting the militant’s movement, to defeat the militant group, counterterrorism assets need to shift military operation tactics and fight them from hideouts.
