An Istanbul court has remanded 278 people early Tuesday 19th July 2016 over the alleged connections with Friday’s deadly coup attempt.
The suspects including 13 high ranking military officers and soldiers charged with ‘crime against government’.
According a statement by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, over 900 detained suspects are still being interrogated.
Once investigation is complete, anyone found guilty of the charges will be punished with heavy life imprisonment as outlined in Turkey’s Penal Code Article 309.
The failed coup occurred late on Friday when rogue elements of the Turkish military attempted to overthrow the country's democratically elected government.
The coup attempt violence left at least 208 people killed including members of the security forces and civilians and nearly 1,500 others wounded as they protested against the coup.
