Police in Mozambique have arrested 24 suspected terrorist who were heeded to reinforce other insurgents in Mocimboa da Praia. There has been an offshoot of Islamic militants in the northern district that has been causing panic since October 2017.
The arrest of the 24 is the result of investigations that police have been doing since radical Islamists showed up last year. In October 2017, a group of about 30 armed fundamentalists launched attacks against three police stations in Mocimboa da Praia, leading to the death of two policemen and a community leader.
The arrested homegrown terrorists are said to be attempting to relocate to the area to provide backup to their compatriots who have been suffering major losses following a doubling of security efforts.
