At least 22 people have been brutally killed by ISIS-affiliated Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in eastern D.R. Congo. The militants hacked the villagers with machetes in the Beni region with the majority of the victims being women.
More than 100 people have died in assaults blamed on the group since November 5. The latest incident came a day after six civilians were killed in an attack in the eastern city of Beni. The attacks are meant to discourage the residents against helping the military who recently launched an operation to rid the region of the ADF.
DRC forces launched operations against the armed group in late October. The ADF has retaliated by carrying out massacres. The ADF has been conducting more attacks since its bayat pledge to ISIS was accepted and the group was acknowledged as the Islamic State’s Central Africa Province (ISCAP).
