Intense fighting between government troops backed by AMISOM peacekeepers has been going throughout the night in Qoryole, a frontier town in Lower Shabelle region of the Somali republic.
Numerous causalities have been suffered by both sides, intelligences sources report.
Al-Shabaab militants staged attacks on the Somali National Army base and AMISOM troops late Sunday night prompting a counter-attack.
Estimates show Al-Shabaab may have lost more than 16 fighters in the attack.
