Approximately 137 persons fighting in Somalia as members of the Al-Qaeda branch, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) have been killed in the past 2 months after a unidentified Airforce continue to conduct clandestine precision airstrikes in Juba and Gedo regions of the Horn of Africa nation.
The Unclaimed airstrikes have targeted the terrorist group’s headquarters in Jiliib, it’s logistics maintenance center in Buale, and forward operating bases in El-Adde, and Kunyo-Barrow.
The night airstrikes are precise with targets being destroyed without collateral damage. There are no incidents of civilian being accidently hit by the precision bombs.
In Jiliib, the airstrike wiped out a fleet of vehicles in a garage. The vehicles were being converted into technicals (armed pickup Landcruisers). The garage was destroyed and the mechanics alongside dozens of fighters killed. A gas depot, central filling station and vehicle servicing center was also destroyed. 2 Mid- Level commanders and their troops were killed in the airstrike. They were refuelling their vehicles readying for deployment for an attack in Lower Juba.
These attacks remain Unclaimed. The United States African Command in Djibouti issued a statement in September 2018 distancing itself from these airstrikes.
The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen has attempted to conduct psy-war to counter the threat posed by these airstrikes and the damage they’ve caused.
